Craft Beer Label Design & Branding
This classic lager series by Monument City Brewing Company is a lineup of traditional style lagers. The beer series consists of 5 classics: Czech Dark Lager, Vienna Lager, Kolsch, Altbier and a Helles Lager.
The theme of this limited release series is to celebrate the beer making process, the hard work that goes into brewing and the dedication to the craft.
The client was looking for a label design that conveyed a classic yet technical nature. They wanted illustration work that visually communicates the story and name of each beer. My pen and ink style of artwork on each label brings a utilitarian and artisan vibe to each can. These lagers celebrate the end of a hard day's work.
When designing the label, I focused on the tasty liquid inside that can. I asked myself, does the label make me thirsty to try the beer? When so much craftsmanship goes into the brew, the label art should work just as hard to sell the beer. The combination of the name, the art and the quality liquid inside, this lineup by MCB is a classic you'll appreciate!
Brewed in Baltimore, Maryland these craft beers are smooth, clean and crisp!
Metric System Czech Dark Lager Label Design
This dark lager is the 1st in the series for this Classic Lager lineup.
It’s all about that handcrafted process - from brewing the liquid to marketing the can at the distributor. When you work hard to brew the beer, you need a label that works just as hard selling the tasty content. There is power in the beer packaging!
When brewing a classic style, MCB takes a “method acting” approach. This includes measuring temperature in Celsius, volume in Hectoliters, and adhering to a traditional decoction mashing method which provides an added layer of malt complexity. Metric System is our tribute to the classic Czech Dark Lager. This 4.8% lager is easy drinking, dark and malty with notes of biscuit and toffee.
Watermill Kölsch
Meet Watermill Kölsch, the 2nd beer in the classic series by Monument City Brewing Company.
Watermill is a classic German-style Kölsch. Classified as a “hybrid”, the Kölsch is fermented cold with ale yeast. Watermill is expertly crafted by Monument's Head Brewer to be clean, crisp and easy drinking at 4.8%. This true-to-style Kölsch is sure to impress!
Hand Hewn Helles Lager
This Helles Lager is the 3rd beer in the classic lager series by Monument City Brewing Company.

This handcrafted custom beer label design begins with a pencil sketch, an idea and thumbnails drawn out lightly on paper first. Then, the illustrated label comes to life as I ink the lines with micron pens. The hand drawing and illustration adds to the handcrafted vibe of the beer itself. Next, I pair the illustration with tailored graphic design to create a label that is one-of-a-kind and will stand out on the distributor shelf in the marketplace.
A-Frame Vienna Lager Beer Label Design
This Vienna Lager is the 4th beer in the classic series by MCB.
A-Frame is a craft beer by Monument City Brewing in Baltimore, MD. This beer is part of their classic lager series. In the series you'll find classic styles of quality liquid that focus on the craftsmanship and hard work that went into the brewing & fermentation process.
My beer label design featuring a hand drawn A-Frame cabin in the woods, a perfect escape to enjoy this seasonal beer.
The traditional hand drawn art pulls your eye in for a taste. The label design is more than art. More than pen and ink on paper. It is the front end billboard that tells a story and gives you an experience. The experience you'll find when you open this can: take a hike out in nature, enjoy the crisp air. Sit down and relax. You've worked hard, now cozy up and enjoy a quiet evening.
Rafters Altbier
The final beer in the classic lager series is Rafters, an Altbier.
The name and illustration of this beer plays on the industrial feel of the space/brewery. It aligns with the traditional and long-standing style Monument has been brewing.
